Scottsdale,
Ariz. - Ilangovan Govindarajan, M.D., a Kingman Internal Medicine doctor, agreed to an Interim Consent Agreement offered by the Arizona Medical Board on Wednesday, April 2nd, that will require him to have a chaperone present during visits by female patients while the Board continues its investigation regarding sexual misconduct charges. Also, Dr. Govindarajan agreed to undergo a psycho-sexual evaluation at his expense within the next 30 days.
The offer came during the continuation of an emergency Summary Action Meeting in Scottsdale that began on Tuesday, April 1st. In proposing the practice restriction, Board Chair William Martin III, M.D., explained, “These cases are very difficult for everyone.” Dr. Martin pointed out that the mission of the Arizona Medical Board is to protect the public. “So we need to find a way to protect the public while allowing the investigation to go forward,” he added. Other members agreed that a chaperone by a licensed healthcare professional would provide that protection.
A Consent Agreement sets out in legal terms what the Board and a physician understand will occur once both parties sign it. The Board indicated that the restriction may be modified depending on the results of the evaluation.
