Medical Board Summarily Suspends License of Tucson Physician

Scottsdale, Ariz. - The Arizona Medical Board, meeting by telephone conference call on Monday, March 26, voted to summarily suspend the medical license of Le Roi Arturo Baez, M.D., of Tucson, finding he represents an imminent threat to public health and safety. Dr. Baez is board-certified in both Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology and holds an active Arizona medical license since March 2002.

On March 2, 2007, the Arizona Medical Board received a complaint that Dr. Baez had assaulted the complainant on March 1 in his office. The complainant also filed a complaint with the police. After conducting investigational interviews, the Arizona Medical Board ordered Dr. Baez to obtain an evaluation from the Sexual Recovery Institute (SRI). Based upon the results of the evaluation, SRI recommended that Dr. Baez not immediately return to the practice of medicine.

During the telephonic Board meeting today, Dr. Baez refused to discuss the matter citing a possible criminal investigation. Dr. Baez‘s attorney stated that Dr. Baez denies the allegations. Dr. Baez is entitled to an expedited evidentiary hearing of his case at the Office of Administrative Hearings within the next 60 days. The summary suspension is effective immediately.
